Minneapolis, Minnesota

Originally designed by Minnesota architect Carl Stravs in 1923 and located on a bluff overlooking Minnehaha Creek, this charming cottage demanded that any remodeling make creative use of the limited space on its spectacular urban site. By adding a simple gabled form with red board and batten siding to the back, Albertsson Hansen reflected the American and Swedish heritage of the two owners and evoked the attached house and barn of colonial farms.

Of Note

Original character of house preserved; character of the street improved. Addition conceived as cantilevered tower on creek side to take advantage of views on three sides. High/Low material mix: IKEA cabinets combined with custom details and wall paneling.

"Because of the careful siting and location of the windows, the house is a prism for enjoying each day of the passing seasons in the creek valley." -owners
